Class of 2017

1945 graduate of Ellsworth Memorial High School where he was a four year member of the Soccer, Basketball and Track Teams coached by Hugh Greer. He was a member of two undefeated Basketball State Champion Teams in 1943 and 1945 and was selected as a First Team All-State Guard in 1945. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Athletic Association Council and served as a sports writer for the school newspaper. He participated in War Bond drives during World War II. Jim was the recipient of the “Hugh Greer Award” as the “Best Athlete” in the Class of 1945. He served in the United States Navy reporting for active duty on “Victory in Europe Day” (VE Day) and served in the South Pacific in the Amphibious Corp. He received a Bachelor Degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Connecticut in 1950. He was a three year member of the Basketball Team under Coach Greer again and was a three year member of the Soccer Team including the undefeated National Soccer Champion Team in 1948, the first National Championship for the University. He received recognition as a Soccer First Team All-American and All-New England in 1949. He served as an Assistant Basketball Coach at Ellsworth from 1949-1950. He received a Masters Degree in School Health Education from Indiana University in 1951 and played Club Soccer, was a member of the Little 500 Bike Team and President of the Heart Association National Staff Society. His career encompassed employment with various health agencies in numerous states including the Indiana State Board of Health, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. His duties focused on research, public and professional education and community service. He served as National President of the then 500 member American Heart Association staff society. Jim has three children and two grandchildren and resides in Windsor, Connecticut.

2007 Graduate of South Windsor High School where she was a four year honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society, (2006-2007). Known by many as “Allie”, she was a four year member and starter on the Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Team. She served as Team Co-Captain her junior and senior years. Allie was All-Conference and All-State three years and was recognized as an All- American both her junior and senior years. She played for the World Champion USA U-19 Squad in 2007 at the World Championships in Ontario, Canada. Allie also was a member of the Girl’s Varsity Volleyball Team her senior year where she received All-Conference honors. Allie received the Hugh Greer Award as the “Best Female Athlete” in her class and was recognized as the “Female Athlete” of the senior class in 2007. She received a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies Degree (Young Childhood Education) from the University of New Hampshire in 2011 where she was a four year member and starter on the Women’s Division I Lacrosse Team. She served as Captain her junior and senior years. Allie was ranked in the “Top 5” in the United States in Draws for three seasons. She was selected to the American East All-Conference First Team three years, the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times and the IWLCA All-Academic Team, and the America East All-Academic Team two years. She also served as Vice President and President of a Student Athlete Leadership organization. She received a Master of Education in Elementary Education from Springfield College in 2013 and was an Assistant Coach there for Women’s Lacrosse 2011-2013. Allie began her teaching career as a 5th Grade Teacher in 2013 at DeBerry Elementary School in Springfield, Massachusetts where she is currently employed. She has been the Somers High School Lacrosse Coach since 2016 and led the team to the state finals in her first year. She is a CrossFit Coach at CrossFit Blue Diamond in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts (2016-Present). She is a former South Windsor Youth Lacrosse Coach (2014-2015) and has led a CVYGL Lacrosse Coaches Clinic with her father for Connecticut Town Coaches (2011-present). She managed a fundraising event in 2016 at her CrossFit Gym and proceeds went to the Michael Lynch Scholarship Foundation which raises money to help fund the education of fallen 9/11 firefighters and other rescue team members. Clothes were also collected for donation to a local women’s shelter in Springfield, Massachusetts.

1977 graduate of South Windsor High School ranked fourth in a class of 354. He was a member of the National Honor Society (junior and senior years), Editor of the South Winds Newspaper (junior and senior years), Class Treasurer (junior and senior years), Connecticut State Debate Champion, selected for Boy’s State (junior year), AFS (senior year) and chosen for the Presidential Classroom of Young Americans (senior year). David also achieved Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 228. David graduated with honors from Wesleyan University with a B.A. Degree in Government in 1981 and was a Truman Scholarship Finalist. He received a Masters Degree in International Relations from Yale University in 1983 where he was a recipient of a Graduate Fellowship and was Speaker Program Chairman for the International Relations Department. David’s employment includes Washington Correspondent at the Financial Times (2016 to Present), Cybersecurity Editor at Politico (2015-2016), Senior Writer at Bloomberg News in Washington, D.C. (2010-2015) and Global Business Writer (2005-2010), Founding Beijing China Bureau Chief (2002-2005), Founding London, England Bureau Chief (1997-2001) and Financial Writer (1994-1996) for USA Today. Previously, David was Editor of Defense Week, a Washington, D.C. trade publication covering national security. He has travelled all over the world reporting on the economy and world market from more than sixty countries. For USA Today he has covered wars in Kosovo and Iraq and was an embedded reporter with the U.S. Marines in Iraq in 2003. He was USA Today’s first recipient of a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University. David has made television appearances on Fox, C-Span and PBS in the United States and BBC and Sky News in London, England. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School for Communication and led seminars for Chinese business journalists in Xi’an, China. He published a book titled “When the Luck of the Irish Ran Out: The World’s Most Resilient Country and Its Struggle to Rise Again”. David lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Kathleen and their three sons.

1986 graduate of South Windsor High School where he played Varsity Soccer and Varsity Hockey three years, Captain of Hockey Team senior year. He received a B.A. Degree in Psychology and graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University in1990 where he was a member of the Men’s Hockey Team four years and Co-Captain his Senior year. He was the 1941 Championship Trophy recipient in 1990, Richard F. Vaughan Cup Recipient in 1990 and ECAC Player of the Week. Upon graduation from Princeton, Kevin applied and had been accepted to New York Medical College but also was presented with an opportunity to play professional hockey with the San Jose Sharks organization which he did for the years 1990-1992. He then went on to graduate from New York Medical College. Kevin is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and second board certified in Pain Medicine. His experience and volunteer work include Physician Partner in Orthopedics New England, in Boston, Massachusetts (2015-present), Physician Partner in the Boston Spine Group (2001-2015), Chief Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Metrowest Medical Center, Chairman North American Spine Society Regional Spinal Injections Course (2007-2013) and Castle Connolly Top Doctors (2013-2016). He has numerous publications/articles. He resides with his wife Cate and three children in Westborough, Massachusetts.
